Our Story
The Original Pancake House Toledo
Jim and Rebecca Cowan have called The Original Pancake House on the corner of Central and Secor home for over 20 years. As Jim and Becky like to say, “We don’t have customers, we have a large family.” For years the Cowans worked hard to make The Original Pancake House a Toledo tradition. Then in 2010, their home away from home went up in smoke. An electrical fire that started in the back of the kitchen after-hours quickly spread throughout the building. What wasn’t consumed by fire was devastated by heat and smoke. They toiled endlessly and had to overcome many challenges to be able to reopen their doors in 2011. “It was a lot of hard work, tears and worries,” admits Jim, “but every bit of it was worth the effort”. Becky herself took the time to hand pick every light, every fixture and planned out every inch of the remodel. “This is like home to us”, Becky says, “we wanted it to be open, bright and inviting. We wanted everyone to feel like it was their home.”

“Recommending the German Pancake.”
“A great local diner for a family breakfast. Their service is incredible. The place is very cozy and it has that old diner atmosphere that you’d look for on Sunday mornings. It was our first time trying the German pancake. I wasn’t expecting sour and sweet flavors at the same time. So good! Thank you, Julie, for recommending the German pancake for us!”
